World Teachers' Day: Jigawa NUT requests higher compensation

The Jigawa State branch of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, has requested that the state government establish a compensation programme for teachers who work in remote locations.

This was said by Comrade Yunusa Abdulkadir, the NUT State Chairman, during a press conference to mark World Teachers’ Day in Dutse.

He clarified that the primary issue hurting the industry in Jigawa State and across the nation was a lack of teachers.

Approximately 30,000 teachers are needed in Jigawa State, according to Yunusa.

According to him “the present administration has increased the number of schools from 1982 to over 3400, recruited over 1900 teachers, and engaged 4500 J-teach teachers to address the problem.”

In order to address the issue and ensure good service delivery, he asked the State and local governments to start a huge recruitment effort for teachers.

However, the Chairman praised Governor Badaru Abubakar for his fast payment of teachers’ wages, promotions, training of teachers, and provision of instructional materials.

Additionally, he urged teachers to commit to fulfilling their duties in order to support the government’s efforts.
