Aruna Quadri of Nigeria was eliminated from the 2022 World Table Tennis Championship in Macao, China, after falling to Anton Kallberg of Sweden.
Despite being ranked higher than Kallberg, Quadri was unable to defeat his adversary.
The 34-year-old was defeated by the Swede in a single set.
As a result of his dominance, Kallberg prevailed 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.
The loss ended Quadri’s hopes of duplicating his 2019 accomplishment, in which he advanced to the Round of 32.
Quadri is the first athlete from Africa to hold a top-10 ranking.
