All of the candidates that competed against the All Progressives Congress’s nominee, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for president, according to Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, are in support of him.
Adamu made this statement on Thursday in Abuja at a media Q&A session.
Recall that the former governor of Lagos State was challenged for the APC presidential nomination by, among others, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Dr. Ahmed Lawan, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Ameachi, Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello, and Governor of Ebonyi State Dave Umahi.
Some of the presidential contenders who ran against Tinubu stayed away from party events and campaign-related activities, which was a worrying hint that things were not going well within the ruling party.
Responding to inquiries from reporters, Adamu criticised the perception in some circles that the candidates for president do not back Tinubu’s bid.
He clarified that the party’s leadership has started working to make amends with the disgruntled party chieftains all throughout the nation.
However, Adamu urged the media to meet with the aforementioned candidates so that they may be interviewed.
He said: “To the best of our knowledge, they are supporting Tinubu. One thing which the fourth estate of the realm owes as a duty is that each of the aspirants for the presidency of this country that presented themselves during the June convention of the party are still alive.
“I don’t see any reason you have not taken the initiative, having observed or having the state of mind to know where do they stand today, none of you have any restrictions to meeting any of these candidates.
“It is not for me to observe, to start talking for them if you notice anything that is not normal. Or you want something from them that you have not seen. Nothing stops you from talking to any of them.”
“As for reconciliation, it is a work in progress. We have been doing that, we have been talking to them individually. They are always around in the political space. You can always meet them and ask whatever your curiosity or anxiety is. Go to them and see what they tell you,” he added.
