A lawsuit filed against the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, to enforce the party’s zoning and rotatory policy before the 2023 presidential election has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.
The lawsuit was dismissed by the court on Friday on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction to hear it, according to a unanimous decision handed by Justice Adamu Jauro.
Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential candidate and former deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, filed the lawsuit against his party, asking for a court order compelling it to uphold the party’s zoning and rotatory policy.
The presidential contender specifically requested a court order compelling PDP to zone the nomination of its presidential candidate to the nation’s South East geopolitical zone.
Justice Jauro ruled that the lawsuit was not admissible, citing the fact that the selection of candidates for election is a matter of party politics.
