Police warn recruits not to break social media policies

The 16 Police Colleges and Training Schools’ aspiring constables have been warned by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) not to abuse social media.

When doing their duties, the security agency instructed them to adopt and use the concepts of public relations for better service delivery and efficiency.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer, spoke at the Lagos Police College Ikeja.

He underlined the requirement for using public relations to support the Police’s policing tactics as they combat crime, criminality, and other social vices in Nigeria.

Over 700 recruits received lectures from the PRO on the NPF Social Media Policy and the Inspector-General Usman Baba’s instruction.

The guidelines for using and regulating social media platforms include clauses that specify penalties for violators.

According to Adejobi, “the policy forbids the improper use of social media platforms to promote indiscipline, unethical behaviour, and unapproved activities by police employees, either in official or personal capacity.”

To adequately instruct the recruits on the principles, ethics, and values of policing, the training will be reproduced in all police colleges and training schools.

Adejobi charged them with being good ambassadors and of good character as they prepare for their passing out and induction.

The training, according to the spokeswoman, would strengthen their capacity and preparedness for effective security management before, during, and after the 2023 elections.
