Buhari directs the Water Resources Minister to prepare a flood-prevention master plan within 90 days

No one should compel you to vote against your conscience — Buhari

In order to prepare a Comprehensive Plan of Action for Preventing Flood Disaster in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Minister of Water Resources to lead and coordinate with the Ministries of Environment and Transportation as well as State Governments.

The Minister received Buhari’s instruction to provide the strategy to him in 90 days in a letter signed by Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the president’s chief of staff.

Garba Shehu gave reporters in Abuja the news on Monday with a succinct statement.

It further stated that President Buhari routinely receives briefings on the country’s flooding condition and reaffirms his commitment to tackling the problems brought on by the crisis.

It is unclear if the President’s instruction is a response to criticism from some Nigerians who claim the Federal Government only gives the flooding issues lip attention.

According to a recent study by UNICEF over the weekend, the flood crisis that has reportedly affected 34 out of 36 states in Nigeria has put over 1.5 million children at risk of dropping out of school and facing impending health concerns.
