More than 620,000 card-carrying New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) members left for the People’s Democratic Party yesterday from the North East subregion (PDP).
Dr. Babayo Liman, the group’s head and the party’s zonal national secretary, revealed that Yola had announced their departure along with hundreds of other followers.
Dr. Liman cited the NNPP’s lack of structures as the reason he and his followers left the zone.
Dr. Liman claimed that he had already resigned from consideration as the NNPP’s presidential candidate, saying that he did so for the party’s advancement. Sadly, the party does not have a single building on the ground that it can claim as its own.
He emphasised that his lack of invitations to meetings after being chosen as the North-East zone’s national secretary is what led to their switch to the PDP.
Liman bragged that he is defecting to the PDP with 620,000 individuals from the zone and claimed that the former vice president Atiku Abubakar is certain to win with the calibre of followers who have left.
According to Dr. Liman, they intended to make sure that former vice president Atiku Abubakar and governor Ahmadu Fintiri won their respective elections for president and governor.
Alhaji Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate, was accused of “failing to resolve the internal crisis rocking the party even after visiting him five times about the crisis” according to the accusation.
He also alleged “that most officials of the NNPP in the North East are just ghosts and so could not be seen or found”.
