On February 14, the Anambra state police command freed fifteen National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen along the state’s Isseke, Ihiala road.

According to a statement made by the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Corps members had just finished their three-week orientation program and were on their way to Lagos when the vehicle they boarded was stopped by as-yet-unidentified armed men in an unmarked white Toyota Hilux at Total Junction Ihiala.

“Their vehicle was diverted to Isseke, Ihiala-Orlu expressway where the gunmen kept them hostage. The armed men who noticed they were being followed by Police Operatives, abandoned the Corpers and zoomed off with the Toyota Hiace bus with Reg Nos: EPE 353 YE conveying the Corpers”, Tochukwu said.

He said that the police had given the corps members a debriefing and that all essential preparations had been made to transport them back to their intended locations.
