Burna Boy Finally Reacts to ‘New Cat’ Tag Given to Him by Davido

Burna Boy becomes first African artiste to hit 1 billion Audiomack streams

Nigerian singer Burna Boy has said he is unconcerned by the tag “new cat,” which was recently given to him by fellow artist Davido.

PulseNets reports that Burna Boy, who released his debut album in 2012, in a recent interview with Apple Music said he is not bothered by the label because it makes him feel younger and motivated to do more.

“It is a good thing that people think my movement is new,” he said in a recent interview. “It keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span.”

The “Last Last” crooner also said that he does all kinds of music because he is “trying to make the world understand that music is bigger than a genre.”

“I feel blessed that I can do different genres,” he said. “It would have been a waste if I had restricted myself to a genre.”

Burna Boy’s comments come after Davido sparked controversy last month when he classified the singer as one of the “new cats” in the Afrobeats industry, along with Rema, Asake, and Fireboy DML.

Some fans and critics accused Davido of underrating Burna Boy, who has won multiple Grammy Awards and is considered one of the most successful Afrobeats artists in the world.
