PENGASSAN: Dangote Refinery Sacks All Nigerian Workers
The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all its Nigerian staff, PulseNets learnt on Wednesday.
This development was first obtained from a statement shared on X by political commentator Imran Wakili.
According to him, “Dangote Refinery has dismissed all Nigerian employees under what it calls ‘reorganisation’, barely a day after 90 percent of them became members of PENGASSAN.”
Wakili further told PulseNets that the action came less than 24 hours after the majority of the affected workforce aligned with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN.
A memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by the Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, was also shared by Wakili. The document explained that the move formed part of a “comprehensive re-organisation” of the refinery following reported cases of sabotage in some operational units.
The internal notice directed all affected employees to hand over every company asset in their possession to their respective line managers and secure formal exit clearance.
It also instructed the finance department to calculate and release outstanding benefits and entitlements in line with contractual terms of employment.

In the same memo, the refinery’s management expressed appreciation to the disengaged staff, acknowledging their contributions while in service.
PulseNets reports that the Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN have been locked in a simmering trade dispute over the right of workers to unionize.
