Jonathan Reveals Why He Invited Tompolo to His Otueke Residence
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday hosted High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, at his Otuoke residence in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The private meeting, PulseNets learnt, centred on strategies to sustain peace and security across the Niger Delta region.
Sources close to the former president told PulseNets that Jonathan invited Tompolo for a strategic consultation amid growing public concerns over emerging security challenges in the oil-rich region.
After the closed-door meeting, Jonathan, while addressing a select group of journalists, noted that the discussion was aimed at preserving the relative peace currently enjoyed in the Niger Delta.
“It’s been quite a while since I last saw Tompolo. He’s one of those young leaders who have played critical roles in keeping our region united,” Jonathan told PulseNets.
“People have raised some concerns lately, and I felt it was important to meet with him directly. Our goal is to ensure the Niger Delta remains stable and peaceful.”
Jonathan also commended Tompolo for his consistent role in safeguarding national assets and maintaining stability around oil installations.
Earlier in the day, Tompolo made a rare public appearance in Yenagoa, where he inspected the ongoing construction of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide Secretariat near the Ijaw House.
A source familiar with the Otuoke meeting informed PulseNets that discussions also covered the future of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, as well as broader efforts to strengthen collaboration among critical stakeholders in the region.
“Both leaders agreed on the need for sustained dialogue and collective responsibility to secure the region’s peace dividends,” the source added.
Observers described the engagement as a symbolic renewal of dialogue between two influential Niger Delta figures, particularly at a time when the region continues to demand inclusive development and fair participation in national affairs.

Tompolo, who currently serves as Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) — the private security outfit overseeing pipeline surveillance across the Niger Delta — arrived in the company of Tantita’s Managing Director, High Chief Kestin Pondi, and Bayelsa APC 2023 deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Joshua Maciver, among others.
The meeting, PulseNets reported, is seen as a strategic step toward deepening peace architecture in the Niger Delta and fostering renewed collaboration between political leaders and community stakeholders.
