Abia Gov Otti Set to Immortalise FUTO VC Nnenna Oti for “New Template of Integrity” in 2023
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has revealed plans by his administration to formally honour the Returning Officer of the 2023 gubernatorial election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Professor Nnenna Oti, for what he described as her unwavering commitment to truth, integrity, and uncompromised electoral standards.
The announcement came during a grand civic reception organised in the Governor’s honour by the Old Bende people under the Old Bende Progressive Union, which PulseNets learnt comprises the eight LGAs of the Old Bende bloc, including the Edda community in Ebonyi State.
Otti, who PulseNets obtained to have praised Professor Oti as “a woman whose integrity spoke louder than pressure,” said her courage during the tense 2023 governorship contest earned her national admiration and set her apart as a model for transparent elections in Nigeria.
According to him, Abians have several recognitions lined up for the respected academic. He assured that his administration would, at the right time, immortalise her for raising the bar of public service and electoral duty.
He added in a remark obtained by PulseNets:
“This is still early morning. At the appropriate time, we will invite her and immortalise her. She has introduced a new template for Nigeria. Whenever integrity and credibility are mentioned, the nation looks in her direction. She may not have taken money, but she received something far greater.”
The Governor urged public office holders nationwide to emulate her example by choosing truth and justice ahead of personal interests, insisting that the long-term health of Nigeria’s democracy depends on such acts of courage.
He also cautioned political actors already engaging in early 2027 election manoeuvres, stressing that power ultimately belongs to God.
“Those who boast should stop. You may not be here in 2027. If you want to play God or talk like God, I will leave you in God’s hands,” he warned in comments he spoke to PulseNets.
Otti reiterated that his administration remains focused on service delivery and fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by Abia citizens. He added that he would resist distractions that could derail ongoing developmental commitments.

“There is plenty of work ahead. Let us stay focused on the task before us. When the time comes, it is you—the people—who will decide who leads you,” he told the gathering.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Old Bende Progressive Union and Deputy Inspector General of Police (rtd.), Chief Azubuike Udah, told PulseNets that the event symbolised a united endorsement of Governor Otti’s leadership. Udah praised what he described as the Governor’s transformative achievements across multiple sectors, noting that the Old Bende bloc—known for enterprise, hospitality, and support for worthy causes—had unanimously passed a vote of confidence on him.
