Nicki Minaj to Address UN on Alleged Attacks Against Nigerian Christians Amid Growing US Concern
A high-profile United Nations engagement in New York this Tuesday is drawing global attention as American rapper Onika Maraj-Petty, widely known as Nicki Minaj, prepares to address rising concerns over jihadist attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria. The development, PulseNets learnt, forms part of a renewed international push to spotlight alleged religiously motivated violence in Africa’s most populous nation.
Minaj is expected to appear alongside the US Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, and presidential advisor Alex Bruesewit, who convened the gathering. The arrangement was first disclosed by Time senior political correspondent Eric Cortellessa in a late-Sunday post on X.
Confirming the event, Ambassador Waltz described Minaj as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.” He added that her decision to publicly confront the situation in Nigeria underscores the moral weight of her global influence.
According to information obtained by PulseNets, Waltz further expressed gratitude for Minaj’s involvement, noting that her voice amplifies a crisis the US believes has been underreported. “I’m grateful she’s leveraging her massive platform to spotlight the atrocities against Christians in Nigeria,” he stated.
Responding to his remarks, Minaj wrote on X that she views the invitation as a profound responsibility. “I am grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know,” she said. She stressed that she would not retreat from issues of injustice, adding that the influence she believes God has given her carries a larger purpose.
The development follows recent claims by former US President Donald Trump, who alleged a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria and subsequently designated the country a “Country of Particular Concern,” urging US lawmakers to act swiftly. Minaj had earlier commended Trump for publicly condemning the killings of Christians, PulseNets reported.

Nigeria’s federal authorities, however, have repeatedly dismissed allegations of religious persecution, insisting that insecurity in the country is driven by criminality and extremism rather than faith-based motives. Despite the government’s rebuttals, Washington has maintained strong interest in the matter.
The upcoming UN session featuring Nicki Minaj marks the latest iteration of America’s diplomatic pressure campaign to address what it views as widespread and escalating persecution of Nigerian Christians.
