Senator Seriake Dickson Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP
Reports suggesting that former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have been firmly dismissed as false.
PulseNets learnt on Friday that the lawmaker, through his Media Assistant, Ajiri Daniels, categorically denied the defection claims, stressing that he remains fully committed to the PDP and has not joined any other political party.
Speaking on the matter, the Senator explained that he is presently in a period of mourning following the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. According to information obtained by PulseNets, Dickson said he deliberately stepped back from political engagements as a mark of respect and has instead been receiving condolence visits from friends, associates, political leaders, and well-wishers from across Nigeria.
He noted that the visitors cut across party lines and social backgrounds, reflecting long-standing relationships built over the years.
While acknowledging that he is attentively observing political developments nationwide, the former governor made it clear that no political decision would be taken during the mourning period. He stated that after the burial, he intends to consult widely with friends and political partners across the country before reaching any conclusion.
“After the burial, I will engage my friends and political associates nationwide, listen to their views, and then take a position which I will formally communicate,” he said, as reported by PulseNets.
Senator Dickson further reaffirmed his standing within the PDP, emphasizing that he remains a key stakeholder in the party and is hopeful that it will continue to act responsibly, guided by its legacy and historic role in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

Reacting directly to the defection narrative, he urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the report, describing it as deliberate misinformation designed to mislead the public.
“The story is fake and should be ignored. I urge everyone to rely only on information from my official communication channels,” he told PulseNets.
