2Face Reacts to Wizkid–Fela Comparison, Calls It Disrespectful and Unfair
Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Face, has weighed in on the growing public debate comparing global Afrobeats star Wizkid with the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
PulseNets learnt that the controversy erupted after Wizkid declared himself “bigger” than Fela while responding to criticism from Seun Kuti, who had faulted both the singer and his fanbase for drawing parallels between the Ojuelegba crooner and the iconic Afrobeat pioneer.
Reacting to the controversy in a preview of an upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Face dismissed the comparison as unnecessary and misplaced, stressing that it diminishes Fela’s enduring legacy while also doing a disservice to Wizkid’s achievements.
The African Queen crooner, PulseNets obtained, explained that both artists belong to different musical generations and operated under vastly different social, political, and cultural realities, making direct comparisons flawed.
“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous. Apart from the fact that it is disrespectful to Fela, and at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid,” 2Face expressed.

According to him, equating the two icons overlooks their distinct eras, influence, and individual contributions to the evolution of Nigerian music on both local and global stages.
