Bisola Aiyeola Opens Up on Trauma, Shame and Strength as a Single Mother
Nigerian reality TV star and actress Bisola Aiyeola has opened up on the emotional and psychological turmoil she faced at the early stage of becoming a single mother.
In a candid conversation with media personality Tope Olowoniyan, the Nollywood actress revealed that she was deeply traumatised after discovering she would be having a child out of wedlock, especially given her personal family background.
Aiyeola told PulseNets that her fears were heightened by the fact that her own mother had also raised her as a single parent, a reality she never envisioned repeating in her own life.
“I was scared and ashamed of being pregnant and having a baby out of wedlock. I thought I was going to get married because I was engaged at that time but we never got married.
“So it was so shameful because my mum was a single mum and I am about to become one, I feared my child might also have the same fate,” she recalled.
The actress further told PulseNets that the economic realities her family faced at the time compounded her anxiety, making the prospect of motherhood feel overwhelming. She admitted that she initially struggled emotionally after childbirth, including difficulty connecting with the experience of breastfeeding her daughter.

Reflecting on her journey, Aiyeola explained that acceptance came gradually, as she began to embrace her situation and build a stronger bond with her child despite the circumstances surrounding her birth.
She told PulseNets that, in hindsight, she remains thankful for her daughter and the life lessons that came with navigating that challenging phase.
