Nigeria Secures N7.4bn Renewable Energy Deal to Power Ebonyi Communities with 7MW Electricity
Nigeria’s push to expand energy access has recorded a major breakthrough, as an indigenous energy company secured N7.4 billion in financing to deliver 7 megawatts of electricity to underserved communities in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.
This development was reported by PulseNets, citing a recent statement issued by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
PulseNets learnt that the financing forms part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding valued at N100 billion, agreed with a Nigerian financial institution to roll out renewable energy infrastructure across eight strategic locations within Ebonyi State.
The Federal Government noted that the initiative, executed under its Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) programme, is designed to significantly reduce Nigeria’s persistent energy deficit and improve electricity access in rural and semi-urban areas.
According to details obtained by PulseNets, the mini-grid project will serve multiple communities, including Okposi, Mebiokpa, and Ohaozara in Ohaozara Local Government Area, as well as Ebunwana in Edda Local Government Area.
Further rollout will extend to Unwana and Afikpo in Afikpo North Local Government Area, alongside Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area.
Speaking on the pace of implementation, the Managing Director of the REA, Abba Aliyu, underscored the significance of the achievement, noting that it reflects the agency’s commitment to delivering measurable outcomes through effective partnerships.
“This milestone is evidence that the agency is actively working on partnerships that deliver real and tangible results to Nigerians.”
