2027 Elections: Michael Orokpo Urges Nigerians to Reject Incompetent Leaders Amid Rising Insecurity

The founder of Michael Orokpo, Encounter Jesus Ministry International, has urged Nigerians to decisively reject incompetent leadership at the polls, stressing the need for a shift toward competence-driven governance.

The cleric made this call during a recent sermon at his church, where he addressed the persistent wave of killings and abductions linked to terrorist activities across the country. He emphasised that the worsening security situation demands urgent civic responsibility and informed electoral choices.

According to remarks obtained by PulseNets, Orokpo encouraged members of his congregation to adopt lawful self-defence strategies during attacks, while describing the 2027 general elections as a defining moment for Nigeria’s future. He noted that the polls present a rare opportunity for citizens to elect leaders with the capacity to confront and resolve entrenched security challenges.

He further expressed concern that despite the gravity of the situation, many voters may still allow ethnic and tribal loyalties to override competence when making electoral decisions. PulseNets learnt that the preacher criticised the tendency of Nigerians to disregard counsel from spiritual leaders during elections, even when such guidance is intended to promote national interest.

He said, “Hundreds of people die in Nigeria but all we are interested in is optics. Most children of the leaders have not come into this country for several years now.

“When elections come, they will give you N2000 and both you and your children will remain where you are. You are not fighting to build a nation, you collect peanuts and they leave you until after four years then they come back again.

“I hear people saying when things go like this, speak out. This is not the time to speak out. The problem is that you don’t even hear. We speak out during elections.

“When those leading you spiritually say this is where you should go, you don’t hear. You became tribalistic but when they are killing people they don’t care about your tribe.

“Election is still coming, we will talk and you will still say it’s your tribe. Enough is enough, prepare for 2027. While you are praying and defending yourself, be alive to see them voted out”.

Orokpo’s remarks come amid growing national debate on Nigeria’s security architecture, voter behaviour, and the role of civic awareness in shaping electoral outcomes.
