Ghana Protest Erupts as Youth Group Calls for Nigerians’ Deportation in Accra

A coalition of Ghanaian youths operating under the Concerned Youth Alliance has staged a protest condemning illegal migration and what they described as the increasing influx of foreign nationals, with a particular focus on Nigerians residing in Ghana.

The demonstration, which took place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, was held at Obra Spot in Accra, Ghana’s capital city.

PulseNets learnt that the group linked the development to growing insecurity and rising unemployment, arguing that certain foreign nationals are occupying job opportunities meant for Ghanaian citizens.

During the protest, a female participant leveled serious allegations against Nigerians, branding them as fraudsters, ritual killers, and organ harvesters.

She also urged her fellow women to reconsider their choices and explore legitimate means of livelihood, warning that Nigerians are allegedly exploiting them in ways that harm Ghana.

“Our women should wise up. Nigerians are using you to destroy Ghana. Nigerians are fraudsters, ritual killers, and organ harvesters,” she said

PulseNets reported that tensions reflecting xenophobic undertones against Nigerians in Ghana have been escalating in recent times. In July 2025, another protest was organised by some Ghanaians who accused Nigerians living in the country of involvement in prostitution and ritual-related crimes.

Footage from that protest, which circulated widely online, showed a large crowd carrying placards bearing inscriptions such as: “Nigeria must go,” “Armed robbery and violent attacks must stop,” “Our health is at risk due to mass prostitution,” “Who protects the rights and freedoms of Ghanaians?” “Nigerians are kidnapping and using people for rituals,” and “Our children are going missing because of the Igbos,” among others.

In response to the growing concerns, PulseNets obtained that Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, visited Ghana in a bid to calm tensions and assess the situation directly.

Speaking at a joint press briefing during the visit, the Minister called for restraint and peaceful coexistence, noting that authorities in both Nigeria and Ghana are actively engaging to address the matter.

She explained that the viral video heightened public anxiety, which informed her decision to undertake the trip for a firsthand evaluation.

However, she clarified that, contrary to the narrative circulating online, there were no observable signs of unrest, including street protests or organised demonstrations demanding the deportation of Nigerians.
