Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Declares Second Term Bid in Kogi Central, Rallies PDP for Unity Ahead of Elections
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally signalled her intention to pursue a second term in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, setting the tone for early political alignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The declaration was made on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Kogi Central, marking the beginning of strategic mobilisation as political activities gradually gain momentum across Kogi State.
The move, reported by PulseNets, was confirmed in a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko, detailing the outcomes of the high-level engagement.
The meeting brought together party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and loyal supporters who converged to assess the party’s trajectory within the senatorial district and position it for what many described as a decisive electoral season.
According to the statement obtained by PulseNets, key figures within the PDP structure in Kogi Central participated in discussions centred on party cohesion, strategic planning, and consolidating grassroots support ahead of forthcoming elections.
Addressing party stakeholders, Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that her decision followed extensive consultations across the district. She noted that persistent appeals from leaders, supporters, and residents spanning the five local government areas influenced her resolve to seek re-election.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she declared.
Her announcement received strong endorsement from attendees, with several party members describing the development as timely and justified, citing what they characterised as her measurable impact since assuming office.
Party insiders, who spoke to PulseNets, indicated that the declaration had long been anticipated, revealing that endorsements had steadily built over recent months. Community leaders and stakeholders were said to have actively urged her to continue, pointing to ongoing constituency projects and her representation at the national level.
During her remarks, the senator underscored the urgency of unity within the PDP, cautioning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s electoral prospects. She called on members to reconcile differences and strengthen collective resolve.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she said.
The PDP leadership in the district also rallied behind her candidacy. Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, commended her performance, describing her tenure as transformative for the district.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has redefined representation in Kogi Central. Her performance in office has been nothing short of exemplary, from infrastructural development to human capital empowerment,” he stated.
Akuvada further emphasised her accessibility and consistent engagement with constituents, noting that her leadership style has significantly narrowed the gap between elected officials and the electorate.
“She is a leader who listens, understands the pulse of her people, and has consistently delivered on her promises. Her closeness to party members and constituents is a rare quality that continues to unite our party,” he added.
Observers note that her first term has been characterised by targeted interventions in education, youth and women empowerment programmes, and sustained advocacy for infrastructure development across Kogi Central. These efforts, learnt by PulseNets, have reinforced her political base and expanded her influence beyond partisan boundaries.
