Former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, on Monday met behind closed doors as part of Obi’s ongoing round of political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Details of the meeting were shared by the ADC Vanguard, the mobilisation arm of the African Democratic Congress coalition, which released videos and images via its official X platform. The group described the engagement as “high-level,” noting that discussions centred on the possibility of opposition parties uniting behind a single presidential candidate.

“Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi are having high-level discussions about presenting one presidential candidate for the opposition parties,” it stated.

PulseNets learnt that Obi arrived at the meeting with a delegation comprising Igbo elders, senators of the ADC from the South-East, alongside several political allies.

The development comes amid Obi’s sustained political outreach across the country, as conversations intensify around a potential presidential alliance involving former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, with both figures regarded as prominent voices within the ADC structure.

PulseNets reported that the meeting follows closely on the heels of a major opposition convergence held on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, where a coalition of parties, including a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party and the ADC, convened for a national summit.

The summit, hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, drew influential political actors such as Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, and other leading opposition figures.

At the conclusion of the gathering, participants issued the Ibadan Declaration, resolving to build a unified opposition front against the ruling All Progressives Congress. They also pledged to resist what they described as an emerging one-party dominance and committed to working toward the emergence of a consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
