US Congressman Riley Moore Says US Will Closely Monitor Nigeria’s 2027 General Elections
A member of the United States Congress, Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.), has said the United States will closely observe Nigeria’s 2027 general elections and monitor the conduct of the electoral process as preparations for the polls gradually gather momentum.
The Republican lawmaker made the declaration amid persistent concerns over electoral integrity, insecurity, and religious persecution in Nigeria. “We will be paying close attention to Nigeria’s 2027 election,” Moore stated in remarks obtained by PulseNets, a comment that has since generated conversations across Nigeria’s political landscape.
PulseNets learnt that Rep. Moore has consistently played an active role in shaping U.S. discussions on Nigeria, particularly on issues relating to governance, insecurity, and the persecution of Christians.
The congressman previously led a U.S. congressional delegation on a fact-finding mission to Nigeria, where the team visited communities affected by violence, including Benue State, before presenting its findings to the White House.
His latest comments come as political activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential and general elections continue to intensify, with major political parties and opposition figures already making strategic moves ahead of the electoral cycle.
PulseNets reported that Moore’s position reflects the broader interest of the United States in supporting democratic governance, credible elections, and the protection of human rights in Nigeria.
Earlier this year, PulseNets learnt that representatives linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar held discussions with aides to Congressman Moore on issues surrounding electoral integrity and security concerns ahead of the 2027 elections.
Moore’s statement has continued to attract mixed reactions from Nigerians across political and social platforms.
While some stakeholders believe international attention could help strengthen the credibility of the electoral process and encourage transparency, others argue that such comments may be viewed as interference in Nigeria’s domestic political affairs.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace, expectations remain high for a transparent, peaceful, free, and fair electoral process. Political observers believe the congressman’s remarks could shape diplomatic engagements between Nigeria and the United States in the months leading to the elections.
The development further highlights the increasing level of international interest in Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly following controversies that surrounded previous election cycles.
