Rivers govt demotes 11 school principals, withdraws licenses of 24 private schools

Governor Wike Dissolves Cabinet

The Rivers State government has demoted principals of 11 government secondary schools across the state.

The principals include those whose schools were named in the list of 35 schools recently banned by the West Africa Examination Council for condoning examination malpractice.

The examination body also banned 24 private secondary schools for engaging in examination malpractice.

Reacting to the development, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education Prof. Kaniye Ebeku said the state government has zero tolerance for exam malpractice.

He noted that a meeting between the ministry and the affected schools have been held and that some sanctions were agreed upon.

He said “We have directed that For all principals who are still in service and who superintended during the time the situation arose we direct that they be demoted.

“For all private schools that are found in the list, we have directed that their licenses to operate be withdrawn forthwith”.
