Abuja terror alert: Inform the police, not the public – IGP tells UK and US

IGP Orders Restriction Of Movement For Supplementary Elections Today

Alkali Baba Usman, the IGP, has issued a warning to foreign nations regarding the terror threat in Nigeria.

Foreign countries, according to Usman, should stop telling the people about terror alerts.

According to the police chief, the recent terror notice should have been issued to the police rather than the general public.

The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom issued a security alert.

They issued a travel alert advising their people to avoid Abuja owing to planned terrorist attacks.

They also advised their citizens to leave Abuja till the terror situation is resolved.

The IGP, on the other hand, guaranteed the public of their safety.

The IGP spoke on Saturday at the opening of a police station and barracks in Ibusa, Delta State’s Oshimili North Local Government Area.

He said, “How can you enter the country and said there is security alert, you didn’t inform the police, and you go around telling your people; don’t go to Abuja, return from Abuja.

“When you have information on security, it is proper to inform the police and we will find a way to tackle it, instead of taking it to the public.

“We are working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure the safety of residents.”
