Breaking: African Union Suspends Gabon Following Military Coup

The African Union (AU) has suspended Gabon from from participating in any activities organized by the body following the military’s seizure of power on August 30, 2023, which led to the removal of President Ali Bongo.

PulseNets reports that this was announced in a statement by the African Union’s Peace and Security Council on Thursday, responding to the recent military coup in Gabon.

The body said on X, formerly Twitter, that it “strongly condemns the military takeover of power in the Republic of Gabon which ousted President Ali Bongo on 30 August 2023; Decides to immediately suspend the participation of Gabon in all activities of the AU, its organs and institutions”.
