The Sokoto State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Gov. Aminu Tambuwal’s government for what it claims are excessive loan demands and a lack of priority in the State’s finances.
Alhaji Sadiq Achida, the APC’s state chairman, voiced the criticism during a news conference on Tuesday in Sokoto.
According to Achida, the 2023 Budget that was submitted to the State Assembly showed a lack of appreciation for the welfare of the populace and the need to develop important State-wide sectors.
He said that spending N1.5 billion on vehicles for politicians, duplication of projects, N914 million in COVID-19 provisions, and the purchase of decaying NICON buildings for N300 million had overridden the requirements of the general public.
The PDP’s administration in Sokoto State has seven years of high poverty ratings, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the party chairman observed.
He said that a lack of focus on infrastructural, social, and economic development had caused poverty to spread among the populace.
“In the Budget, we saw nothing but misplacement of priorities, a bundle of contradictions aimed at uplifting the personal comfort of political office holders, over and above provision of essential services to the people.
“It is disheartening that the governor said little, if any, about the performance of the outgoing budget, but rather decided to bury the details of his government’s failures, to avoid public scrutiny,” Achida said.
