Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully dismantled more than 115 illegal refining sites and 66 boats, while apprehending 22 suspects in the process.
PulseNets learned from a statement on the Army’s social media platform that 27 stolen pipes, four pumping machines, and five illegal connections were also recovered. Additionally, over 170,000 stolen products and other related items were confiscated.
In Bayelsa State, troops conducted operations in the swampy Ibidi general area, Twon Brass, and the Agip Terminal in Brass Local Government Area (LGA). They intercepted one illegal refining site, a generator, a pumping machine, a reservoir, and a large wooden boat carrying over 90,000 litres of stolen refined products.
“In Southern Ijaw LGA, around Igbomotoru, 2 illegal refining sites, one wooden boat, as well as over 2,000 litres of stolen products were confiscated. In the same LGA, around Opotoma and Isinugbene, troops deactivated 2 illegal refining sites and confiscated over 2,500 litres of stolen crude,” the Army told PulseNets.
The statement further detailed that in Southern Ijaw LGA, four illegal refining sites, two wooden boats, and pumping machines were recovered, in addition to over 2,500 litres of stolen crude.

“At Okarki forest, one illegal artisanal refinery was destroyed, with over 5,000 litres of stolen crude confiscated.
“At the notorious Imo River, over 79 illegal refining sites and 59 wooden boats were destroyed, with over 40,000 stolen products recovered,” the Army reported to PulseNets.
