Baba-Ahmed Slams ADC as ‘Deceiving Nigerians,’ Urges Peter Obi to Rejoin Labour Party

Labour Party vice presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has rubbished the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, insisting that the movement is “deceiving Nigerians.”

Baba-Ahmed spoke on Channels Television on Friday, PulseNets learnt, barely a week after Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, endorsed ADC candidates for the Anambra State by-elections.

When asked about his belief in the ADC’s capacity to “fix Nigeria,” Baba-Ahmed was blunt. “They are deceiving us,” he said.

“I’m in Labour Party for God’s sake”

The former senator further dismissed speculations linking him to the ADC. “I’m in the Labour Party for God’s sake,” Baba-Ahmed told PulseNets when pressed about being a member of the coalition. “I’m a Peter Obi man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party to contest 2027.”

Datti also dropped a major hint about his own political ambition. Asked whether he would run in 2027, he spoke with measured conviction:

“If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow. My love for Nigeria is undying, and I would appropriately associate the group and individuals that are like-minded to restore Nigeria.”

Obi’s Endorsement of ADC

PulseNets reported that Obi attributed his endorsement of ADC candidates during last Saturday’s Anambra by-elections to the internal crisis tearing through the Labour Party. Sources close to Obi told PulseNets that he has grown increasingly frustrated with the LP leadership tussle, a factor that shaped his political moves in Anambra.

This is not the first time Baba-Ahmed has attacked the ADC coalition. In July, he learnt that “everyone in the coalition were after selfish interests,” stressing that with such a mindset, defeating the incumbent president in 2027 would be impossible.

Despite these sharp criticisms, Baba-Ahmed’s loyalty to Peter Obi remains unshaken, a position he reinforced on national TV. His comments suggest that if Obi returns to the Labour Party fold, Nigerians may yet see a renewed Obi-Baba-Ahmed ticket in 2027.
