Coalition Backs Jonathan for 2027, Says He’s Most Qualified, Experienced to Rescue Nigeria
The Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan 2027 has presented former President Goodluck Jonathan as the most qualified and experienced leader to confront Nigeria’s prevailing challenges, confirming ongoing efforts to position him ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
At an international press briefing held in Abuja, the coalition’s president, Tom Ohikere, stated that the group is actively mobilising support across Nigeria and within the diaspora to facilitate Jonathan’s return to national leadership, PulseNets learnt.
Ohikere described the coalition as a unifying coordination platform bringing together multiple support groups under a shared mission to restore stability, rebuild economic confidence, and advance responsible governance nationwide.
He noted that Nigeria is grappling with severe economic and security pressures, including rising inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and exchange rate volatility, all of which have deepened hardship among citizens and eroded trust in governance.
According to him, addressing the current situation requires experienced leadership with a strong grasp of governance dynamics, adding that Jonathan’s track record across various levels of public service places him in a credible position to lead the country once again.
“Jonathan remains one of the few Nigerians with comprehensive experience in governance and a proven record of national leadership,” Ohikere said.
The coalition reiterated its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting credible elections, and ensuring adherence to the rule of law, stressing that rebuilding public trust in governance remains a critical priority.
It further underscored the importance of inclusive governance that reflects Nigeria’s diversity, encourages national cohesion, and reduces political tensions across regions.
Reflecting on Jonathan’s previous administration, the group maintained that his tenure demonstrated commitment to democratic principles, institutional stability, and economic reforms, adding that the outcomes of the 2014 National Conference continue to hold relevance in ongoing discussions around national restructuring, PulseNets reported.
The coalition also faulted comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar questioning Jonathan’s experience, describing the remarks as inaccurate and inconsistent with his established record in public service.
Ohikere argued that Jonathan’s progression through key leadership roles, from deputy governor to governor, vice president, and ultimately president, represents a broad and tested governance background.
He added that Jonathan’s peaceful transfer of power in 2015 remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a clear demonstration of his commitment to constitutional order.
The coalition disclosed that consultations with stakeholders and political groups across the country have commenced, with plans to scale up grassroots mobilisation and advocacy as the 2027 general elections approach, PulseNets learnt.

Nigerians were urged to carefully assess both past and current leadership experiences in making informed decisions about the nation’s future.
“Support for Goodluck Jonathan represents a step toward restoring confidence, stability, and direction in Nigeria,” Ohikere said.
