Court sets a date for the Machina v. Lawan lawsuit verdict in the Yobe North senatorial race

Bashir Sheriff Machina, the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Yobe North held on May 28th, filed a lawsuit against the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Ahmad Lawan. The court in Damaturu, Yobe State, set September 28, 2022, as the date for its decision.

Remember that on September 12, 2022, Justice Fadima Aminu reserved judgment on the senatorial ticket dispute after hearing arguments from the plaintiff’s and defendants’ attorneys.

Machina Campaign Organization spokesman Hussain Mohammed Isa confirmed the development in a post on his verified Facebook page.

“A Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu has fixed September 28 for judgement in a suit filed by winner of the May 28th APC senatorial primary election of Yobe North, Bashir Sheriff Machina against APC, INEC and Ahmad Lawan”, he posted.

The court in Damaturu will rule on Machina’s bid to be recognized as the party’s official senatorial flag bearer for the 2023 election. Machina ran in and won the APC senatorial primary election for Yobe North, but his name was changed.

On May 28, 2022, a primary election was held for the Yobe North senate seat.
