Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ehie Ogerenye Edison, the embattled speaker of a faction within the Rivers State House of Assembly, has reportedly resigned.
The sudden departure adds to the already turbulent political tension in the state.
Mr Ehie, a loyalist of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He cited personal reasons for his decision.
Just weeks ago, 27 lawmakers loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This incident led to a power struggle between the two factions, with the PDP pushing for the defectors’ seats to be declared vacant.
