Exclusive: Ex-Church Member Accuses Pastor Chris Okafor of Rape at 15, Spiritual Manipulation, and Abuse Spanning Two Generations

A disturbing first-hand account has emerged detailing long-running allegations of sexual abuse, spiritual coercion, and family betrayal involving the founder of Liberation City, Pastor Chris Okafor.

PulseNets learnt that a 36-year-old former member of the church, identified as Ama, has accused the high-profile televangelist of raping her as a minor, abandoning the child allegedly conceived from the assault, and years later sexually abusing that same child.

In an emotional testimony obtained by PulseNets, Ama alleged that her ordeal began when she was just 15 years old and serving as a choir member in the church.

First Alleged Assault as a Teenager

Ama told PulseNets that the incident occurred in late 2004 at Pastor Okafor’s residence on Bashiru Street, Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.

She explained that after delivering snails to the cleric’s home on behalf of her mother, she was asked to return a few days later.

“He told me he had finished with the snails and asked me to come back,” she recounted.
“When I arrived, he led me into his bedroom under the guise of appreciation.”

According to her account, the atmosphere quickly changed.

“He suddenly began touching me in ways I didn’t understand. I questioned him, but he locked the door. I told him I had never experienced anything like that and begged him to stop,” she said.

Ama alleged that she was overpowered and raped.

“I couldn’t fight him. Everything went blank. When I regained consciousness, I was on the floor, bleeding. I cried endlessly, asking myself what wrong I had done,” she stated.

Alleged Spiritual Manipulation

Ama further alleged that immediately after the assault, the cleric used spiritual authority to silence her.

“While I was still crying, he brought out a notebook and told me the Holy Spirit had revealed that I was his wife,” she said.

She claimed the message was written in pencil at the back of the jotter.

“It read: ‘Amarachi, you are my wife, says the Holy Spirit.’ I was confused, frightened, and completely powerless,” she told PulseNets.

Ama said Pastor Okafor warned her not to disclose the incident.

“He reminded me that he was a prophet and said if I spoke to anyone, something terrible would happen,” she added.

Fear, Silence, and Pregnancy

Ama described months of emotional turmoil, saying fear and confusion prevented her from speaking out immediately.

“I was too young to process what had happened. I didn’t even know how I managed to get home that day,” she said.

She later discovered she was pregnant and confided in a close relative.

“When I finally told her, she screamed. But the discussion quickly turned to protecting my mother from shame,” Ama recalled.

Ama alleged that Pastor Okafor pressured her to terminate the pregnancy.

“He gave me money and insisted the pregnancy must not continue because he was a pastor and prophet,” she said.
“I refused. I was terrified of abortion stories I had heard, and my exams were only days away.”

Family Involvement and Broken Promises

Ama told PulseNets that when her mother eventually confronted the cleric, he did not deny the allegation.

“He was calm. He apologised and promised he would marry me,” she said.

Family elders reportedly intervened, and after several meetings, Ama was taken to her village to stay with relatives.

“That was how everything was buried,” she added.

Alleged Second Assault Years Later

Ama alleged that years after giving birth to their daughter, Precious, she returned to Pastor Okafor to request financial support for the child’s education.

“I remember him tapping my shoulder. Everything went blank again,” she said.
“When I came to, my clothes were disarranged, and he was cleaning himself.”

She said the cleric apologised afterward.

“He told me he did it because he still liked me and warned me once again not to tell anyone,” she stated.

Allegations Involving the Child

According to Ama, family pressure later forced her to allow her daughter live temporarily with Pastor Okafor.

“Some relatives believed he had money and could provide better opportunities,” she told PulseNets.

She alleged that access to her daughter was soon restricted and that the child was often hidden whenever she visited.

The situation escalated when Precious reportedly reached out to her mother in distress.

“When she finally opened up, she told me she was treated like she didn’t belong — denied food, excluded from family photos, and constantly told to leave,” Ama said.

Ama further alleged that her daughter disclosed sexual abuse.

“She later told me that her father had been sexually violating her during her stays there,” she stated.

According to her, the alleged assaults occurred around 2019 and early 2020, when the child was about 14 years old.

“It shattered us because it happened at almost the same age I was abused,” Ama said.

She explained that the family quietly removed the child to protect her mental health, especially as she was preparing for her WAEC examinations.

Breaking Two Decades of Silence

Ama said she decided to speak publicly after over 20 years of silence.

“I lived in fear for most of my life. Now, I want the truth to be known,” she said.

Pastor Chris Okafor could not be reached directly for comment. However, his lawyer, Ife Ajayi Esq., told PulseNets that the cleric had earlier filed a complaint against Ama.

“A formal petition was submitted to the police last year, and investigations are ongoing,” Ajayi said.
“She will be invited to present whatever evidence she has.”

He dismissed the allegations as malicious.

“This publication serves no genuine journalistic purpose and is intended to blackmail our client,” he added.

Other Controversies Surrounding the Cleric

PulseNets reported that in December 2025, actress Doris Ogala shared — and later deleted — an image allegedly showing Pastor Okafor in a private bedroom setting.

Her lawyers later issued a ₦1 billion demand notice, accusing the cleric of breaching an alleged promise of marriage that began in 2017.

Separately, Lagos State Police confirmed that Pastor Okafor had been invited for questioning over multiple rape and sexual offence allegations, with investigations transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Authorities assured protection for alleged victims and witnesses and pledged a transparent process.

In another development, an audio clip released by social media activist VeryDarkMan featured a woman, Chidera Okafor, claiming to be the cleric’s daughter and alleging inappropriate conduct while living in his household.

The pastor denied paternity through his lawyer and threatened legal action. However, his ex-wife later made independent allegations, including claims of domestic abuse and child molestation, while demanding DNA tests.
