The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been praised by Senator Orji Kalu (APC-Abia North) for calling off its eight-month strike.
To prevent further industrial strikes, the Senate Chief Whip recommended the Federal Government and ASUU to find common ground.
Kalu praised the government’s legislative and executive branches for maintaining contact with the union representing universities.
The congressman claimed that as a supporter of accessible, high-quality education, he had frequent contact with the union.
“Both parties must establish a common ground to avoid any strike in the future”, his statement reads.
Kalu emphasised that education is a remedy for development and that it must be a primary focus in governmental initiatives.
Despite the government’s budgetary constraints, he charged officials with doing everything possible to improve education quality.
The senator urged students at educational schools to remain calm, steadfast, and dedicated to their studies.
