The newly elected chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, George Turnah, has expressed confidence that divine intervention will ultimately favour the party in the 2027 general election cycle.

Turnah, who emerged as chairman of the faction aligned with Nyesom Wike, maintained that despite internal turbulence confronting the PDP, the party remains politically viable and determined to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking shortly after the announcement of the state congress results, Turnah told PulseNets that the PDP structure in Bayelsa remains active and prepared for the political contest ahead.

“We are not ungrateful people, we will continue to stand by this party, even when human machination fails PDP in Bayelsa State.

God has always intervened, that God that intervened on behalf of PDP in Bayelsa in 2019, is still the same God today, come 2027, PDP will under our leadership will not only make a strong statement, but we will also deliver to the expectations of the world, Bayelsa Creek Haven also belongs to PDP,” Turnah said.

PulseNets learnt that the newly elected chairman also urged party leaders and grassroots members across Bayelsa to close ranks and rebuild unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to him, the PDP has already positioned itself strategically to regain full control of the state’s governance architecture.

“We thank our delegates, the panel and INEC observers, I like to accept this mandate, on behalf my team, members of the newly elected State Working Committee and myself, we say we are delighted to take this mandate as a sacred mandate of our people given to us freely and we will not betray this confidence that you have all reposed in us.

We will work with all our hearts, in line with the oath of office that we have just taken before you today,” he added.

Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise that produced the new state leadership of the PDP, while party stakeholders expressed optimism that the new executive would reposition the party ahead of future electoral contests.

Political analysts who spoke to PulseNets noted that the leadership transition within the Bayelsa PDP will likely shape the political battle for control of the state’s seat of power at Creek Haven as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify.
