I raped and killed her  because she refused sleep with me — Choirmaster

When she wouldn’t sleep with me, I raped and killed a 32-year-old woman, says Choirmaster

In Jos North LGA of Plateau State, a 29-year-old choirmaster described how and why he raped and killed Ruth Yakadi Bako, a 32-year-old woman.

On Saturday night, December 10, 2022, Ruth was allegedly being driven back from her place of employment when she was approached, stabbed, raped, and had her belongings taken away by the assailant. The following morning, her body was discovered in the vicinity of a car wash in Farin Gada.

The suspect, Friday Samson, was one of those displayed by the police on Tuesday in Jos at the police headquarters.

According to DSP Alfred Alabo, who created the command’s picture, the victim’s phone might be linked to one Ephraim Emmanuel of Angwan Jarawa. When he was apprehended, the suspect admitted that Samson had sold him the phone one Friday. He also said that additional inquiry resulted in the arrest of Samson, a choirmaster and father of two who had admitted to raping and killing Ruth.

Speaking to newsmen, Samson said: “I am here because I raped and killed someone. I don’t have any reason for what I did but I did it, it is just wickedness of the heart. That day, I just wanted to sleep with her but she refused, due to wickedness, I raped and killed.

I am a security guard at a filling station at Farin Gada. That day, I was on duty that night and I saw her passing at about 11 pm. I have never seen her before and I don’t know her but I called her and told her I wanted to sleep with her but she refused. I chased her and caught up with her. That was when I stabbed and raped her.

She was not dead when I raped her, it is just wickedness of the heart. After I raped her, I picked up her phone and held it for one month. After that I sold it to Ephraim Emmanuel, I did not tell him where I got the phone from just that I told him that the phone is mine. I started working in the filling station in August 2022 and I was being paid N28,000.
