Tawa Williams, the Project Consultant for the Ilesa Water Project, has been suspended indefinitely by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for suspicious management of the project’s $106 million financing.
The suspension was announced by the State Governor, Adeleke, on Wednesday in Osogbo through a statement issued by his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the statement, the governor also ordered a complete investigation of the whole project and granted loans.
Governor Adeleke said in a proposal by the Asset Recovery Committee chaired by Bashiru Tokunbo Salam that there has been no development on the project despite the stated transfer of N10 billion and additional $28 million.
The Committee recommended the suspension to prevent further wasting of loans obtained to carry out the Water Project.
The statement disclosed that “The Assets Recovery Committee had submitted an interim report which revealed ongoing large-scale pilfering of the procured loans while the project recorded no progress commiserating with reported expenditure.
“According to the interim report, the Islamic Development Bank agreed to fund the project to the tune of $65 million while the Federal Government provided $41.94 million.”
The Project Coordinator has been suspended with Tawa Williams to enable for an unimpeded assessment of loan administration, while the Consultant has been asked to return to the government the N70m bulletproof jeep in her possession.
The Skin Asset Recovery Committee was one of the committees established by the Ademola Adeleke administration shortly after its November 27, 2022 inauguration.
The committee’s findings include former state officials fleeing with their official cars, despite the fact that the state administration had sought their prompt return.
