Scores burnt beyond recognition at Egbema, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State as a result of an explosion at a kpofire (artisanal refinery) site, PulseNets reports.
Kpofire (illegal refinery) aka bunkery and refuse dumps have combined to make Rivers State one of the most polluted places in Nigeria.
The activities of bunkery hugely added to the dark soot that terrorised Port harcourt and its environment. The Rivers state government started the fight against kpofire after outbreaks of protest and allegations against the Government for abating and encouraging the activities by intentionally refusing to bring this activities to an end.
PulseNets gathered the black soot have reduced to some reasonable extent but its negative effect still remains.
Today being Saturday, PulseNets a site which illegally refines stolen crude oil exploded leaving scores.
An eye witness who spoke to PulseNets confirmed there was no survivor.
As at the time of writing this artice, the Police hasn’t come out with a statement to address the incident.
