Lagos State University Unveils Academic Programme on Tinubu’s Politics, Leadership, and Policy Framework

A specialised academic programme examining the politics, leadership approach, and policy framework of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to commence at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, PulseNets learnt.

The programme is designed to deepen political education while systematically preparing a new generation of leaders through structured ideological and governance-focused training.

PulseNets obtained that the initiative followed a formal partnership between the BAT Ideological Group and LASUSTECH, under which the programme will operate within the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies.

The collaboration is intended to institutionalise political leadership development, governance studies, and ideological orientation within a university environment, creating a structured pathway for political scholarship and practical leadership grooming.

PulseNets reported that the agreement was concluded during a high-level strategic meeting involving the leadership of the BAT Ideological Group and the management of LASUSTECH. The delegation from the group was led by its Convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, and included the Patron, Alhaji Tejumade Isa Onirin, the Oyo State Coordinator, Professor Fayomi Oluyemi, and the Oyo State Woman Leader, Dr Bisi Akin Alabi.

On the university’s side, the team was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, alongside other principal officers. Present at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abiodun Denloye, the Registrar, Mr David Ogungbe, the Bursar, Mr Oki Olashile, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Engr Owoeye Olaniyi David.

Speaking after the engagement, Atoyebi told PulseNets that the group formally submitted a comprehensive proposal seeking the establishment of a School of Politics and Policies within the university. He explained that the institute is envisioned as a national hub for political training, leadership development, and governance research.

According to him, both parties reached a consensus that academic and professional activities of the institute would commence within the next two to three months.

PulseNets learnt that LASUSTECH has already allocated a temporary facility to enable the immediate take-off of the programme, while preparations are ongoing for the construction of a permanent structure.

Atoyebi noted that the proposed permanent complex would be designed to reflect the institute’s national relevance and long-term institutional vision. He further explained that the initiative was conceived in response to what he described as a widening leadership deficit within Nigeria’s political landscape.

He disclosed that the institute will offer structured programmes spanning Diploma, Master’s, and Doctoral levels, in addition to professional certifications, fellowships, and targeted ideological courses for both emerging and established political actors nationwide.

Describing the development as historic, Atoyebi said the institute represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s academic and political evolution. He added that it would be the first university-based political institution in the country to bear the name of a sitting President.

He stated that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embodies more than an individual in power; he represents a body of leadership thought, ideological consistency, and governance philosophy that deserves rigorous academic study and long-term institutional preservation.”
