The founder of One Family, Satguru Maharaj ji, has advocated 60 years imprisonment without an option of fine for promoters of fake news.
Maharaj ji said that anyone found guilty of spreading fake news in Nigeria should be jailed for 60 years.
He made these disclosures while addressing a press conference in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at the weekend.
He said that misinformation is having serious negative impact on the Nigerians and the country in general.
He called on governments to concentrate more on chasing out those involved in evil deeds, urging the National Assembly to pass a law criminalizing fake news.
He said that passing a law on fake news with an imprisonment of 60 years without an option of fine for offenders would serve as a deterrent for others.
“The National Assembly must make law for the common good of Nigerians, fake news is have negative effect in all facet of our lives in Nigeria.
“Misinformation should be taken serious in this country, imaging you have accused someone of something and tarnish such person’s image and at the end of the day we find out that it is not true,” he said.
“A law must be passed in this regard for the good of all”.
Mahaj ji who spoke further appealed to Nigerian leaders to always remember that they are in the positions for the common good of the citizens.
He urged the leaders to take care of the youths for the peace and development of the country.
He called for adequate funding of the judiciary for them to be independent.
He also called on the National Assembly to make law against medical tourism and immunity of governors.
