NFF Orders Super Falcons Coach Justine Madugu, Technical Crew to Step Down

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, and members of his technical crew to step down from their positions with immediate effect.

The decision was announced by the NFF in a brief statement published on its official X account.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The move follows the Super Falcons’ disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria’s title hopes came to an abrupt end in the quarter-finals.

The nine-time African champions were eliminated after suffering a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Cameroon.

Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup also suffered a major blow after the Super Falcons were beaten 2-1 by South Africa, ruling the team out of a place in the inter-confederation playoffs.

Madugu had faced growing pressure over the team’s performances during the tournament, with the latest setbacks putting further scrutiny on his position as head coach.

The NFF has not yet announced who will replace Madugu or the other members of the Super Falcons’ technical crew.

PulseNets learnt that further decisions on the composition of the coaching staff are expected to follow as the federation reviews the team’s recent performances and prepares for upcoming international assignments.
