Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, says it would take the collective energy of Nigerians can rescue the country from the bondage it is currently encountering.
In his Democracy Day message to Nigerians, the former vice president revealled that the country’s enemies are not resting on their oars.
While urging Nigerians to reflect on the country’s democratic journey, Atiku advised citizens who witnessed the days of military dictatorships to appreciate the the freedom they currently enjoy.
“For our democracy to be fully fledged, it must constantly evolve away from the current practice where the governing elite determines the outcome of elections,” Atiku said.
“When I often take stock of the activism that birthed the current democratic dispensation, I am even more convinced that much work still lies ahead.
“Folks on the other side are enemies of democracy, whom we are up against, are not resting. To defeat them, we must do more,” he added.

Atiku described democracy as a constant work in progress and urged the government to uphold the rule of law and ensure that Nigerians enjoy the dividends of this system of government.
