Ogun Tragedy: Man Found Dead Hours After Allegedly Killing Wife Before Their Children

A tragic domestic incident has unsettled residents of River Valley Estate in Ogun State after a man, identified as Ayoola Ayanwale, was found dead in circumstances authorities believe point to suicide, barely hours after his wife, Ayobami, was brutally killed.

It was learnt that the fatal incident unfolded on Thursday, January 8, following a heated disagreement between the couple inside their apartment, an altercation said to have occurred in the presence of their three children.

Accounts obtained by PulseNets from residents indicated that Ayanwale allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp object, inflicting multiple stab wounds on her body. The victim, a mother of three, reportedly sustained deep injuries that left her in critical condition.

Neighbours who spoke to PulseNets said they became alarmed by distressing noises coming from the apartment and forced their way into the compound to intervene. On gaining access, they reportedly found Ayobami in a pool of blood, suffering from severe cuts.

One resident told PulseNets, “She was bleeding heavily and struggling to speak. We rushed her out immediately because her condition was frightening.”

Ayobami was said to have pleaded for water while being transported to a nearby hospital, repeatedly questioning why her husband would turn violent against her. She was later confirmed dead shortly after arrival, with medical personnel explaining that the stab wounds, particularly those close to her lungs, had severely compromised her breathing.

Further accounts reported that after the attack, Ayanwale allegedly returned to the apartment and attempted to clean bloodstains before leaving the area.

The deceased woman’s brother, who spoke to PulseNets, alleged that the suspect stabbed his sister five times in different parts of her body, including her breast, chest, and back. According to him, the attack occurred in full view of the couple’s three children.
He said, “My sister was attacked repeatedly. Those children saw everything, and that is what hurts the most.”

Less than 12 hours after the incident, Ayanwale was found in distress at an open field in the Sotubo area of Ogun State on Friday, January 9. He was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor, PulseNets learnt.

Items reportedly recovered from the scene included a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card, and an ATM card.
