Customers Allege Fraud as Manual Checks Expose Billing Discrepancies in Nigerian Supermarkets

A startling revelation has emerged from patrons of various prominent Nigerian supermarkets, claiming a widespread issue of systematic overcharging, casting doubt on the integrity of these establishments’ billing systems. The controversy surfaced when a customer (anonymous), shopping with a companion named Shalewa, noticed a substantial difference between the manually calculated total and the deducted amount from their account at the point of sale.

According to reports, the incident unfolded at supermarket in Yenagoa as the customer meticulously calculated their purchases, arriving at a sum of 27,000 Naira. However, upon completing the transaction with an ATM card, the printed receipt reflected a charge of 31,000 Naira.

Promptly alerting the store manager, the customer, along with three others who had experienced similar issues, engaged in a manual recount of items. The manager acknowledged the discrepancy, conceding to the correct total of 27,000 Naira. This prompted further investigation, with customers collecting evidence and contacts from others affected, indicating their intent to pursue legal action.

The customer said, “I have evidences from the other 3 people and have gotten their contacts as they promised me that they are ready for this case because their own over charging is even much more than my own.”

The affected customer is urging the public to scrutinize their bills when shopping in major supermarkets, calling for a collective effort to expose establishments involved in fraudulent practices.
