People who engage in double registration may not get PVCs, according to INEC
Even though the commission extended the collecting deadline to February 5, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has stated that people implicated in double and repeated registrations would not be awarded Permanent Voter Cards, or PVCs.
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner of INEC and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated in a statement released on Saturday that the additional week would be the last extension for the collecting of PVCs.
The deadline for PVC collection was set for Sunday, January 29, 2023, but the electoral umpire extended it by a week.
According to PULSENETS, the commission convened a meeting on Friday with the Resident Electoral Commissioners, or RECs, from the 36 federation states and the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja and discussed the continuing collecting of PVCs in its 774 local government offices throughout the country.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the commission, said during the meeting that the commission would be willing to take extra steps to guarantee that everyone has sufficient chance to obtain their PVCs before to the general election.
It said: “Arising from reports from the various States and discussions with Resident Electoral Commissioners, the Commission has decided to further extend PVC collection in all its Local Government Offices nationwide by an additional one week.
“The ongoing collection of PVCs nationwide will therefore continue and end on 5th February 2023.
“Those that engaged in double and multiple registration should not bother visiting any of the Commission’s Offices as the Commission did not print their PVCs.”
The collection time has been extended by two hours and will now begin at 9 am and conclude at 5 pm every day, including Saturdays and Sundays, it was stated.
It guaranteed that everyone who completed a legal registration process would be able to pick up their PVCs.
