Peter Obi Only Candidate Capable of Challenging Tinubu in 2027 — Rufai Oseni Warns of Plot to Block Ballot
Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has asserted that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, remains the most formidable opposition figure capable of confronting President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He made this known on Monday during The Morning Show on Arise Television, where he examined emerging political realignments ahead of the next general election cycle.
Oseni warned that internal and legal disputes may soon engulf the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following its recent expansion, noting that the party’s growing profile could trigger contestations over its structure and legitimacy.
PulseNets learnt that Oseni also alleged the existence of strategic political manoeuvres aimed at preventing Obi from participating in the 2027 race.
According to him, data-driven political mapping conducted across major parties indicates that Obi is widely seen as the only opposition candidate with the electoral weight to significantly challenge Tinubu.
He said:
“I think it’s going to be the beginning of more troubles for the NDC because the litigations will begin. The litigations as regards even the registration of the NDC.
“So it will begin, because, you see, the idea here is Peter Obi not being on the ballot. That’s the problem. All the forces will do everything to ensure Obi doesn’t get on the ballot.
“I do a lot of political mapping, and I know people that do political mapping, the ADC, APC, all the political parties have done political mapping. The only person that can give President Tinubu some push in this election is Obi.
“The first strategy is to ensure Obi doesn’t get on the ballot. The crisis in the ADC was just because of that.”

PulseNets reported that Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, recently aligned with the NDC as part of ongoing coalition-building efforts ahead of 2027.
The duo were formally received into the party by its national leader, Seriake Dickson, alongside other senior executives and supporters during a ceremony at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday evening.
