Presidency: PDP cannot win election if I leave – Wike

Wike Promises to Set Fires in States Supporting Fubara's PDP Takeover
Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT

As the turmoil inside the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deepens, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has stated that the party cannot win the 2023 presidential election without his participation.

Wike stated that he and four other governors play critical roles in the PDP and that the party cannot win elections without them.

On Friday, he made the announcement during a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Wike, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have all called for Iyorchia Ayu’s ouster as PDP National Chairman.

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, and Ayu, the party’s national chairman, cannot be from the same region, according to the governors.

But Wike insisted that he and his group were determined to leave a lasting impression at the gathering.

According to the governor, his financial backing helped PDP win some states.

“If I leave the party today, the PDP cannot win the election. If the five PDP governors say they are leaving today, we are not just ordinary governors, we are very committed and strong.

“There is nobody that wants to win an election and still continue the way they are doing. I have supported many states financially to win elections in the past, including Plateau, Ondo, and Cross Rivers and they cannot deny it”.
