Presidency Shares AI Image of Oluremi Tinubu as Akara Seller, Sparks Widespread Reactions on X

The Presidency has released an artificial intelligence (AI) generated image of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, portraying her as an akara seller.

The AI-generated image was shared on Friday through the official X account of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre, PulseNets learned.

The image shows the First Lady wearing an apron while frying akara, with a signboard beside her bearing the inscription: “Iya Alakara – Hot and Fresh Akara.”

The post surfaced only hours after President Bola Tinubu, while speaking at the inaugural Presidential Press Corps Dinner held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, jokingly referred to the First Lady as “Iya Alakara,” a Yoruba phrase that translates to “mother of the akara seller.”

PulseNets learnt that the First Lady had earlier spoken on the importance of small-scale businesses during the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Flow with Confidence campaign at the State House in Abuja.

During the programme, she encouraged women and young Nigerians to explore businesses that require relatively low start-up capital, citing ventures such as selling akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli as practical examples.

The AI-generated image has since triggered mixed reactions across X, with many Nigerians expressing surprise over its publication by the official presidential media platform and questioning the motive behind the post.
