Rivers APC Suspends Fubara Over Court Case Challenging Party Convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has moved to suspend Fubara Dagogo, a notable party figure from Bonny Local Government Area, following a deepening internal dispute.

PulseNets learned that the decision was reached by the Ward 4 Executive Committee after allegations bordering on anti-party activities and gross misconduct were levelled against the chieftain.

The development, PulseNets gathered, stems from Dagogo’s decision to institute legal proceedings against the APC over its forthcoming national convention.

He had approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order to halt the planned exercise.

In the suit obtained by PulseNets, Dagogo alleged that he was unjustly excluded from contesting the position of National Vice-Chairman (South-South).

Despite reportedly paying N5.1 million for the nomination form, he claimed the party failed to provide the necessary documentation required to formalize his candidacy.

He subsequently asked the court to suspend the South-South zonal congress and affirm his eligibility for the office.

Dagogo also sought the nullification of any election conducted in his absence and demanded N100 million in damages, citing what he described as marginalization.

However, ward leaders in Bonny, who spoke to PulseNets, interpreted the legal action as a clear breach of party discipline and internal mechanisms.

The Ward Chairman, Richard Ibani, confirmed the suspension, noting that the resolution was adopted during a committee meeting held on March 16.

Documentation obtained by PulseNets shows the suspension was endorsed by the Ward Secretary, Donald Jumbo, alongside 21 other executive members.

Ward officials maintained that Dagogo’s actions brought the party into disrepute and violated provisions of the APC Constitution 2022 (as amended), particularly Article 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII), which address party discipline and member conduct.

In a strongly worded communication, the committee stressed that members had previously been cautioned against conduct capable of ridiculing the party.

They stated: “The ward exco has always advised its members to desist from actions capable of ridiculing our party, but your recent actions have shown that you are not willing to respect and abide by the constitution and actions of our great party.”

The suspension, PulseNets learnt, is indefinite and takes immediate effect.

Ward leadership has further urged the state secretariat to ratify the decision and implement any additional disciplinary measures deemed necessary.
