A CALL FOR THE DIMINUTION OF BUSH BURNING AND OPEN INCINERATION
Climate change comes with different spontaneous unpleasant experiences occasionally and this can be very chaotic. In recent times, we experience a sudden rise in sea levels, flooding, erosion, global warming, migration and extinction of species amongst others, all as a result of climate change. These have negatively impacted the health, peaceful communal existence and livelihood of our people overtime.
We are yet again confronted by another atmospheric condition with the semblance of harmattan in February. Harmattan in February??? This is accompanied by debris in the atmosphere like never before, rise in heat levels, burning eyes and exposure to various respiratory diseases. Additionally, we have more buildings reported burnt within this period with unknown causes of fire outbreaks. We have been informed that this is yet another disaster caused by climate change. While it is still being investigated, we can only build our immune systems and resilience to cope with it.

As such, I make a sincere appeal to our consciences to reduce the rate of bush and wastes burning to the barest minimum. Most recently, the atmosphere has become smoky, dry and dirty. This is made worse by open incineration. We are also advised to use nose masks so it filters the oxygen we inhale. We can reduce waste by reusing and recycling items. While certain changes in the climate are beyond human comprehension or control, we have a responsibility to not contribute to aggravating it while mitigating it. The earth is the only home we know. Let us make it suitable for our continuous existence and protect it as much as possible for future generations to come.
