Supreme Court Adjourns New Naira Note Suit Till February 22

New naira - 10 states have petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn Buhari's directive

The Supreme Court was packed on Wednesday with Senior Advocates of Nigeria, other lawyers, and the governors of Kaduna and Kogi states, Nasir El-Rufai and Yahaya Bello, respectively.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has postponed the hearing of the consolidated petitions filed by ten states challenging the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira exchange policy until Wednesday, February 22.

Other states, including Niger, Kano, Ondo, and Ekiti, had requested to be included in the suit against the CBN and the Federal Government.

Justice John Okoro presided over a seven-member panel of the court.

He stated that the court should not lose sight of the case and its aim since it affects Nigerians’ suffering.

Lagos State, through its Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, has filed an application to join the litigation.

Bayelsa State, governed by Damian Dodo, had also asked to be named as a respondent in the litigation. Similarly, Edo State requested to be included as a respondent.
